Could I see a picture of the cage so that I know what to recommend better? You could try adding in some different substrates like coco fiber or cork granules for her to dig in. Boredom breakers would be a good addition too, I don't have any that I know of specifically but I know there are some great diys and good ones for sale .

Hi Hammy,

I agree with Calla that bar biting is a sign of stress and if you can post pictures of your cage on imgur or imgbb, we can take a look and make suggestions.

Ok thanks I forgot to say I do have different substrates in my cage like paper bedding, sand, eco earth, aspen moss and hay

I will try and post a picture of my cage soon

Hi I have a female robo hamster who is 1 year and 7 months old and has recently started bar biting and I don’t know why! Her cage is 100x50cm, she has 6 inches of bedding, 2 chamber hides, cork logs, grapevine wood, chews and forage! She has also been scratching the corners of her cage too. She had only started acting like this since she got a new cage set up but I can’t see why as I just got a bigger sand bath for her and new sprays. The new set up has a bit less empty space but my new and old one were still cluttered enough. Does she need more space? I’m not in a position where I’m able to upgrade so any other advice helps! Or maybe she needs some boredom breakers? If so if anybody knows any good ones I can buy in the uk or good diy ones please let me know! Thanks
It looks like you did a very good job with the cage, with so much enrichment, I don't really know why she would be acting like that. Except for the wheel does look a little small, but since she is a robo, it's fine for now. I would probably geta bigger one like and eight inch or nine inch wheel.

You did a great job! The wheel does look a bit small but aside from that it's great. Not sure why she'd be acting like that :/

I agree with the others, the cage looks great. I would give her some time to settle in. She may just be testing the new place or be a bit nervous about the change. Some hamsters dislike change more than others. If she continues this behavior for a longer period of time, she may not be feeling well. I would keep an eye out for her eating and drinking habits and make sure she is not losing weight.

Alright thanks so much for the help! For her eating and drinking, I think she is fine as last night I gave her her weekly vegetables and she ate it all in not much longer than a minute! Will keep an eye on her though. Thanks
