not really a big important Q or anything but, My brother said that Gimp is illgal or something, I'm not sure what he said and since he's playin on his Xbox 360 he wont tell me >_<. BUT i remember him saying that it wasn't made by a real person (something in the lines of that) and that if you open the wrong file you get a virus.

Is that true?????

Can I post a question about GIMP here too??

I can't work out how to do the 1 pixel border or the border around text.... can anyone help?

Also, how do I select a layer I've previously used. Say I have 3 layers, how do I select layer 2?

Aaaaalso, whenever I try to open a jpg file, or even if I try and save what I've made into a folder, it always says unknown file type.... why?

Great tutorial though, maremoto! I've learned loads!!!

Tiny Dot:

to make a one pix border on gimp:

make a new transparent layer, with it selected on your sig press ctrl + a, and make sure black is your foreground color. The on sig go to edit>stroke selection> set 1 pix and hit ok. Now you cannot see it but it is there. ALWAYS make a new layer, dont re-use this layer.

to sleect a previous layer, click on it in teh layers menu ( ctrl + L ) :P

to save u must enter a file extension.

mysig.jpg mysig.png myanimation.gif mysig.xcf <<< xcf is what you do to save your work as is, with layers, so you can edit it later.

Hope That Helps! :)

Hey HammyGranny, could you help me with this sig? I posted it in critique corner and Maremoto liked it, but she said that the text seemed blurry, which it does.

How can I get it clearer with the outline? To outline it I did alpha to selection, edit > stroke selection and changed it to 1 pixel. The text was fine before I outlined it. Thanks for help with the border too! It's not on this sig because I made this last night before I read your advice ^^

Okay big secret! pay close attention!

To Outline text!

make your text. now, right click the text layer, and alpha to selction it.

Make a NEW BLANK layer. make sure its teh current selected layer, and iyt is UNDER the text layer.

NOw on your sig, up by file, edit, ect.. choose select>grow>1 pixle

Now drag and drop Black or a dark color over the text area, and go to select> none and voila its outlined!

to tiny dot:

its pretty Good! :D never use edit>stroke path to outline text, it messes it up.

** when making text! always ALWAYS make sure anti-aliasing is checked on text tool options!*

Luv:

The first is way too chaotic. I can easily tell what you did to it, and also it doesnt really seem to follow the tut u used, ( on GT)
it needs some help,

The 2nd

better, although i am not a fan of light filters, the first thing tehy told me on GT, was NO light filters. I now its hard b/c they're so cool, but use soft light and opacity to create lighting. Better on the text ;) and goo djob blending the render. Keep practicing. :)
