Yes, when GeoCities was dismantled, a lot of links went bad.

But, not all is lost:

California Hamster Association

The CHA President has a number of articles, including genetics, on her website:
AAA Hamsters

There is a 4H Pet Symposium this October 9th in Los Angeles (near 60 and 710), and November 6th in Lake Forest (near 405 & 5 merge)--see Events

We're quickly coming up on our biggest event of the year -- the Pet Expo educational booth and hamster show! Our hamster show will be on Saturday, April 16th, but we'll be there from Friday through Sunday (April 15-17) for our hamster educational booth. This event draws thousands of people, and is one of the best opportunities for educating the public about proper hamster care. It's also a fantastic event with thousands of animals of all species in attendance.

Every person who enters a hamster in our show on Saturday will receive free entrance to the Expo. Entries are due Monday, April 11th, and this link has entry information.

And here is a link to the Pet Expo information.

As usual, the Pet Expo has a lot of fun and interesting things planned, and it's always easy to spend a day enjoying the Expo.

We hope you've marked your calendars! We hope to see everyone there!

I've always been so jealous of you guys on the West Coast and
the fact you have this great group right in your back yard!

I'd love to go to a hamster show! I've never ever been to one
and only have seen pix of them.

have you ever bought hamsters from Linda? her hamstery page
has been so educational for me as far as colors genetics are
concerned. I know zilch about genetics.

are you entering either of your two babies in the show?
they both are gorgeous. periwinkle especially has that
little princess thing going on that is very appealing.

I haven't purchased any hamsters from Linda, but Periwinkle is a sapphire winter white from her. She was given to me because she wanted to find her a home that would be patient enough to deal with her super skittish-ness in the beginning. When I got her, she would just run away, hide, squeak whenever you even looked at her, etc. She told me her litter mates were picking on her because she was really submissive, so she was separated early from them.

I found out about the CHA via a craigslist ad. I posted asking for any extra cage accessories, tubes, etc. She responded to me and told me she had a bunch available. I went to her house and we talked about the CHA and we decided to join. Our membership expired, but I don't know if that really matters unless you are entering your hamster in the show. I got Nano and Micro in April 2009, and I found out about her maybe in May or June. I planned on getting my next hamsters from her, but then my boyfriends sister didnt want her hamster so we took hers. Periwinkle was completely random. I want to get my next hamsters from her. I will probably get a syrian. I really want a long haired white one!

I have entered the hamster show before with Nano and Micro, but that was in 2009. They had to be kept in a little Critterkeeper for the show and they absolutely hated it. You weren't supossed to put any hideaways in there either, so they were freaking out a bit. I would like to enter Periwinkle in the shows, but I won't be able to enter her at this one. I would like to be there while was getting judged, and my boyfriend and I are going to be running the CHA booth while Linda is busy with the hamster show. They were a lot of fun though! Not just little kids entering either, there were lots of adults with hamsters. They win little medals that say CHA on them (I can take pictures if you want of the ones I have), and pieces of paper that say they won such and such. There is the fun class with stuff like Best Pet, but also a more serious class that has to do with the species standards. When I went there was also a rally and you won cute hamster toys :)

I plan to take my camera with me and document at least the hamster portion of the expo. We will be running the booth for half of the day, and allowed to walk around the rest of the time to see everything (so many cute animals!!!!) I'm making a poster board about the benefits of a bin cage, which is why I wrote up my tutorial. I wanted to make one on how to pick which hamster is best for you, but we don't have enough money for the supplies for that one.

I think Winterbell has pictures from the Expo a few years ago as she used to help Linda as well. Maybe she will share them!

Did anyone went to the CHA Winter show at Griffith Park yesterday (1/12)? I know there's quite a few of us in California but I'm not sure if anyone from HH is there. It was my first CHA show and I brought 2 of my robos who are quite friendly. I had a great time and got to talk to Linda and Nicole quite a bit after the show, so it was a wonderful experience.

(fuzzy) Pics taken after I arrived home due to no-photo policy during the show.
