Just that i was about to put up a post to tell you guys that i have tamed my hamsters and that there's no more problems with them anymore... one of my female winter white "Nutmeg" just passed away hours ago. I am unsure of the reason. It was still very active this afternoon and i was even playing with it yesterday and feeding sunflower seeds..

now i m rather upset and i am not sure should i still continue to introduce a partner to beans since nutmeg has passed away... and especially they are still very young

i just thought of this and wondered if it was safe for the hammy: using long objects like a stick or rod and just pet the hamster that way and get it used to being touched. is this ok for the hammy?

I would highly recommend AGAINST it! I think they will think they are under attack and are more likely to cause them to bite in return.

I skipped the tissue trick, but Im not afraid of their nibbles.... Just dont pick them up until they will stand on your hand because one of mine layed a nice painful bite on my index finger..... And I had to just act like it was nothing..... But after he bit me, I put him away and hours later he let me hold him..... :)

LOL...wow....you are a brave one! I'm afraid I am a bit timid of their bites...hehehe....hence the title of this thread....because that was me....New & Timid!

Anyways, you may want to give the tissue trick a try...I found that it really seemed to comfort my hammie....plus, it is a good way to give them comfort when they are older or ailing...

^^;; I just tried the tissue trick with Ojiisan and he attacked it like a snake would attack its prey... hopefully this works and he will stop the painful biting.

Thanks for the taming tips... I'll continue to try...

hmm kk a word for all.. keep on trying and dont give up! Yup monkeymoms has been very helpful with her taming tricks and wonders..

a few weeks ago i was still very timid of picking up my hamsters... but after getting a few bites on my hands (and it bleed of course)...and using my fist to let them smell my hand first.. it works really finE.. although i skipped the tissue method.. but i highly recommend using the bedding method.. it mite sound abit disgusting but rubbing their beddings on ur hands will help them to recognise a familiar smell.. and thus they wont bite you..

now i am a proud owner of 3 tamed hamsters that run around me and my hands to my shoulder without any problems.. =) thanks monkeymom!!

~chuckles~ @ hammy in your pants.....

Well I cant say I liked getting bit, but I love holding my little guys so, it was worth it. All that remains is a mildly sore index finger.... :applause:

actually now i have one more challenge.. i have a one year old hamster.. untamed.. i have not carried it before cos it bites me last time.. how? i dun tink i can use da basic taming methods cos it most probably wun work cos her teeths are d*** Sharp!

the 3 hammies are doing fine when i go to them they automatically stands up n runs onto my hand when i put it in... bt for the albino i still abit scare though.. cos once it Jumped on my hand n bite it suddenly i not sure why...

haha

i know you haven't used the tissue method before Radio...but I assure you....it will help tame your 1 year old! Its all about letting it get to know YOUR scent so it won't be afraid...also, it might truly help with not getting bitten too!
