So I've been wanting a tattoo since High School began, basically, and that was like three years ago. But you HAVE to be 18 to get one, even with parental consent, so I opted for a lip piercing, which I lovelovelove, but still I find myself wanting a tattoo. I know in my family, tattoos are cool, we're all pretty cool about them, unless they're stupid [like my uncle's], but I wanted to know what other people think about them. I think the only tattoo I would never EVER consider getting would be one on my lower back, it's just so...stereotypical place for a female to get one, but that's my opinion.

&& What would you get?

I bring this up because I might get one this weekend? It's uncertain, haha.

well tattoos as art is something completely personal as an opinion.I myself want to do one .I want to make a little angel in a place i can see it because i am afraid that if i grow older and get my own family there may be 1 single day that i wont think of my little brother. and i dont want that to happen. but think a lot before doing .try and think if ur 70yrs old self will like it before u choose it :)

OMG mate! I have been longing for one for ever! :D
And I can't wait to get one.
Only accept, my mom said I can't get one until I'm 26...
Even tho I'm legally an adult and can make my own decisions whe I'm 18?

But when I do get one, I am going to draw something up.
Because yeah, I'm really impressed with my artwork, and its definatly worth showing off.
I also really want to be a tattoo artist.
And that is something I am really looking into for after high school.
My friends and such have commented if I do own a shopw or work in one, they'd be happy to get a tat done by me. :P
ahaa, I want like a big 'ol dragon or something run like that.
Cooool. :)

In my family tattoos are pretty cool to.
Except my step dad. He refuses to get one, lol.
My mom has 2, and my brother Chris (who turns 18 in a few months) is considering to go get one done in the very near future.
My mom hasn't set age limits for him tho.
I bet she'll totally forget, and I'll end up getting one anyways.

But with that 18 thing you said, I know a 15 year old who just got one done last month.
I'm thinking woah, mate, you must have really thought that over... I hope?
But Idk, mabey its different here?
Still, I wouldn't even consider getting one now.
I know it hurts like heck, and I really want to make a solid decision first.
But, be certain some day you'll see pictures of my sexy tattoo posted up here one day.
LOL

I think tattoos can be really cool, especially if it's something with some sort of significance to you, not just something you thought looked cool. I want to get one when I'm older, but I'd be scared that I'd regret it later.

I have 3 :D

'Gothic' ying-yang and some tribal on my shoulder, got them done seperately, and a purple paw-print on my wrist.

I actually like the pain o.O Really want a star on the back of my neck just to know what it feels like XD

Btw, they are REALLY addictive! Got the ying-yang in December 2006, then had to get the other coz I was just craving getting one done lol

I think tattoos are okay, I just don't like a lot of them and I think they're kind of lame if there is no special meaning behind it.

The only person in my family with one is my brother... and he hid it from everyone for about 6-7 months lol. It's a cross like, right in between his shoulder blades. It's pretty cool.

I know a kid who's only 17 or 18 years old and I suppose he's gone in 4 times already to get tattoos... one on his wrist of his friend's band; the corny "mom" one lol; and then his Monty Are I one, with the band members' autographs circling the name... maybe that counts as just one tattoo lol I don't know.

I personally could never get one. I have an incredibly low pain tolerance and I'd much rather get something less permanent... I just couldn't commit to something like that, especially when I'm old and wrinkly pahaha.

Woahz.
You need to come to Mississippi, Pie.
Here, you can get a tattoo at any age, if you have parental consent.
Once you're 18 though, you don't need their consent.

Anyways, I'd like to get one.
Something small.
I just don't want it to be huge and out there so that I can be like, "Hey, look at my tattoo!"

I also want it to have meaning behind it.
I'm not sure exactly what yet, though.

I've been toying with the idea of my signature with musical notes surrounding it.

Oh, and it'll probably be on my low back or hip.
Haha, sorry Pie.

Personally, I don't like tattoos. Just my opinion though. No one has ever gotten one in my family and I doubt anyone ever will. I just don't like the idea of being poked with needles and stuff. I mean I got my ears pierced but I didnt feel a single thing.

I want to get something up my spine, like symbols. I'm thinking about the Mer De Noms symbols from A Perfect Cirlcle to spell out "Finding beauty in the dissonance". It's my fav Tool quote from their song Schism. But then again, I'm not sure if I want a tribute tattoo. I tell myself that if I still like the idea in a couple of years, then I'll get it.

They look like this: symbols

Also, I want to get something nautical, like an anchor or something similar, on my hip to represent how boating has effected my life. I've been boating on the Chesapeake Bay every summer since I was 3 weeks old, and now that I'm moving out of the house, I must leave it behind.

In the tattoo parlour near where I live you can be 16 with parental consent to get a tattoo :) Im still debating it though. If I did get one, I'd get it like how Matt Willis has, like a little star between the thumb and finger :P

Ok I'm definitely getting it done next Saturday, thanks for all your input!
I'm getting a Maneki Neko little Japanese luck cat on my wrist because:
a) My family has them all over our house, there's 4 in the kitchen, and two in my room. My great grandma bought one for my mom when she was young, and my mom bought one for me after my surgery in '04, so they've always been a big part of my life, and I've wanted one since forever as a tattoo.
b) because I could use some luck, haha, no.
I know what each color means, but I'm probably going to go with a black one [hard so I'm really thinking about it], or pure white one.

That sounds really really cool! Hmmmm maybe the white one would look more... cat shaped? I dunno, it seems like a black cat would just look like a blob from a distance, and the white would look more like an outline.

But it's your decision (duh) :P. Don't forget to post pics when you get it done!!!

Good luck!
