Sorry :( I wasn't trying to defend it, I was just trying to explain to you where I believe it came from :(

In my experience, some hamsters like to climb, some to burrow. Tanks can often provide plenty more burrowing space than a lot of cages.

I'm not sure where you are getting the info that a smaller cage or tank is suitable for a smaller hamster such as a Robo? From what I have seen, Roborovskis are often more active than any of the other species so if anything would need a larger cage?

I believe you didn't read my post right... I ment that tanks (not twenty gallons, tanks in general) are more suitable for Roborovskis as they are a small species of hamster and tend to be escape artists (in my Experince anyway) and nearly always find a corner In a wired cage that they can squeeze through.

In my opinion, regardless of species be it a syrian or dwarf, all require a minimum of 500 sqaure inches. And if it's a robo, a minimum of 40 gallon (50 Preferbly) should be required. When I ment tanks are suitable for robos, I ment That robos nearly always escape through bars as they are the smallest species of domesticated hamster, therefore can be kept in large tanks of necessary to prevent them from escaping.

Ok, sorry. I didn't see the bit about the Robos escaping.

I think we nearly all agree that 500 sq in would be lovely to have as a minimum, but unfortunately it's not likely to happen as cages or tanks these sizes are hard to come by. Generally, we even have a hard time here convincing new owners that they should upgrade from a Crittertrail even to a 350 sq in.

Just read around the topics, you will see.

It's fine, I see you have a white faced robo - quite a rare find these days, and he's an adorable one at that!

And yes, I know it's unlikely to happen, but nothing's impossible. As they say, Actions speak louder than words.

I'm all to aware of the hardship involved in convincing people that critter tails are simply not enough - I spend literally all my time on youtube (in between the time I have left from my pets, and schoolwork) doing just that.

Hi I have two Chinese hamsters and they don't chew on the toys I have in there. I have just some wood toys in there and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix it

It somehow never occurred to me before that there were hamster daddies out there too...  :duh:  I knew boys owned hamsters too, of course, but the idea of a hamster daddy just somehow never happened.

I agree with everyone else that the minimum cage size should be enlarged.

Great post!

To get my dwarf hamsters to chew on the wooden toys, I had to smear a little bit of peanut butter on them to catch their attention :)

If they still don't chew on them, I recommend cheesy chews, whimzees, or a snak shak log!
