Thank you for the quick response! I assume American cheese is a safe source of protein as well?

American cheese is only 18% protein, which is NOT high enough to effectively boost protein intake (but is high enough that it doesn't DROP the levels any). It's also not really cheese- it's HIGHLY processed and full of artificial ingredients. I'd stick with real cheese, like mozzarella- string cheese is easy to work with, and is just mozzarella packaged for snacks :)  at 28% protein it's also slightly more suitable as a protein snack :)

Thank you! I actually have a bunch of mozzarella string cheese, so that's perfect!

If you ever want to boost protein, freeze dried chicken is great-over 50% protein

Celery is not recommended because it's watery and stringy, which can cause choking.

Okay! I just thought I would ask. I just didn't see it on the do not feed list as well.

Thanks so much, mods! :goodvibes: I really appreciate the dwarf portion of the list, as lots of people were confused about the whole 'dwarfs can't have dahdahdah..corn.. peas.. dahdahdahdahdah.. fruit' including me  At least we learn from our mistakes :)

I can't find mushrooms on there. I just bought a bunch of white mushrooms (this kind : http://www.recipe4living.com/uploadedImages/Hints_And_Tips/mushroom1.jpg ) and I was wondering if I can give Dovahkiin a tiny piece ?

Also, I'm pretty sure this is safe, but I'd still like some opinions : beef heart ? It's beef, so I guess it's okay, but better be super safe. :)

white button mushrooms should be safe, but you don't really get any nutrition out of them raw because of the way their cell walls are constructed, you need to cook them to break down the cell structure so they can be digested. Most people cook mushrooms in a ton of butter, so I'd say no.

Thanks !

I'll keep the mushrooms for myself, then. :p

Can I feed bananas?

Yes you can!

I was wondering if I can give my hamsters small portions of dry catfood (because of the high proteins). I know the catfood I have includes high fat rage but could I give it as snack (they don't want dried mealworms) because I want to give them some more proteins.

Or are little pieces of (young) cheese maybe a better idea?

Edit: the catfood has 30% protein and 10% fat
