I hope that whoever is reading this is enjoying it. Here's the next chapter:

Chapter 5: Hamster's Perspective

I did it! I took the seed! I could feel the happiness radiating from her! I wonder if she’ll come back tonight. I hope so. I made a big decision. I decided to celebrate taking the seed by eating more seeds! Huzzah! So be it! I gorged myself, then fell into a deep sleep, not waking up until 11:00 p.m. Then I waited for her, until finally she came with the box. This time, she placed her hand inside the cage. I sniffed at it. There was a walnut in the center. I put two paws on her hand and ate the nut, thinking of the days when I didn’t get showered with walnuts, seeds and oats. It seemed unthinkable now. I looked in the hand. There weren’t any nuts in it this time. Not thinking, I started to walk over the hand, but froze. Three of my paws were on her hand. I backed away. I sniffed around for a while, but the hand remained. I walked up to it again, and was rewarded to see a small pile of oats in the center. I grabbed one and stepped back, enjoying my prize. Then I took another, then another. The next time I stayed with my two paws on the hand while I ate. There was no reason not to, I thought, this person rescued me and is taking good care of me, so why shouldn’t I trust them? I ate several more oats before a second hand came down. It came down gently, allowing me to sniff it before moving behind me. I watched it out of the corner of my eye. It came to rest on my back. I flinched, and the hand moved away. A few oats later, it came back. This time, I barely started when it came to rest on my back. It stroked me gently, smoothing down my fur. I turned around, and sniffed it. I took a tiny nibble, not even puncturing the skin. The hand moved suddenly. I practically flew into my hide, peering around the corner as my owner sprinkled food and went away to refill my water. By the time she was back, I was spinning happily on my wheel.  The owner watched as I had a sand bath, foraged around a bit, and came to the glass. She lifted the box, and settled it in my cage. I climbed in. I knew by now that the box meant the smooth cage that she sat in with me. And sure enough, we climbed the steps, and she let me go into the smooth cage, then climbed in with me. I played around for a while, pouching the seeds I found, and climbing around and on bridges and through tunnels. I had pretty much forgotten the owner was there. So I treated her like a bridge. I climbed up onto her leg, then, using her arm as a ramp, I heaved myself onto her shoulder. She had all this fur at the top of her head, which I hadn’t noticed before, and various other things that you’d never see in a hamster. (Except the poor hamster in a story mom used to tell me, who’s owner shaved him, all except for a spot at the top of his head. The hamster was long-haired, so the owner braided that hair and turned it into a ponytail...) I needn't really tell you any more details for the rest of the time in the smooth cage, long story short, I was returned to my cage with a lot more seeds and the knowledge that owners had weird features.

Should I make the story more about the owner's life? Or do you like it more about the hamster and only a bit about the owner?

I'm glad you're enjoying it! I've never shared any of my stories before, only the ones that were for school assignments, so I was a bit nervous as to what people would think.

I like it both ways! The owners perspective is really cool, but so is the hamster's!

Here's the longest chapter yet! It's still really short though...

Chapter 6: Owner's Perspective

I can’t believe I still haven’t named her! My friends are bugging me even more now, and it makes it all the worse, because I know I’m normally so quick to give a name to something! But this is different, she’s a living thing that will be with me for a long time! I am considering several names, but none of them seem quite right. Dove, Swan, Coconut, Winter, Buttercup, Snowball, Snowflake, Belle, Cupcake… So many names! I log onto my laptop, and for the hundredth time I search, “WW hybrid girl names” I go to the third page, because I’ve already scoured the first and second pages. I click on the first link. I scroll through the same old names, until one catches my eye. Tiny. I click on it. Apparently it’s a common name, but I’ve never heard it before. “Tiny.” I say out loud. “Tiny. Tiny and May, May and Tiny.” It feels like something’s clicked. It’s perfect! Our names sound great together! I can’t wait to call her Tiny! I check my watch. It’s 8:43. I’ll have to wait so long! I grab my book, (on hamster care, of course!) and flop onto my bed. I go to read my favourite section, “Understanding your hamster” but this time, another chapter catches my eye. “Taming your hamster”. I’ve read that section too, of course,  it’s how I know about bathtub bonding and leaving a hamster alone for a week or two before starting to tame them, but for some reason I feel an urge to read it again. I open it to the first page. I’ve always believed that you have to read a book at least twice to absorb most of the details, the more you read it, the more you understand it. I understand the full extent of the taming process more now, so that’s good, but the even better news is that I can hear Tiny rustling around in her cage! I walk up to the cage. I put my hand out like I did yesterday, placing some seeds in the center. Tiny reaches forward, takes one, and eats it with her front paws still on my hand. I love it when she does that! I take it as a sign of trust, which means that the taming is working!  I stroke her back like yesterday and she doesn’t even flinch! I’m glad I got such a trusting hamster. It’s kind of surprising that after being treated so cruelly back at the pet store she hasn’t developed a fear of people. “Hey, Tiny,” I say softly, watching as those big black eyes turn to me. I offer her a DIY treat I made earlier that day, and she, after trying it and finding it to her satisfaction, pouches it readily. Then she steps forward, so three of her paws are on my hand, and takes more food. Then her fourth and finally paw comes onto my hand. I feel like jumping up and down! My hamster trusts me!  Instead, I murmur “good girl” and stroke her back. When she looks at me, I smile. I love those big eyes and ears, her tiny paws, everything about her is just perfect. Tiny’s almost done the seeds now, and I patiently wait for her to finish before slowly and gently raising my hand, telling her how good she is all the while. Once I’m about five centimeters above her bedding, she freaks out and jumps off. I’m ok with that. I know from my reading it’ll take a few tries before I can actually lift her a decent height. Unfortunately, there’ll be a pause on getting to know Tiny soon. I have to go away to a two-week long summer camp. I’m sure it’ll be fun, but I’ll miss Tiny. I’m going to ask Dad tomorrow if he will take care of her while I’m gone. For some reason he doesn’t like animals, but it’s only for two weeks, and he only has to come over every three days. I just hope he doesn’t forget. He is kind of busy getting his clothing company off the ground. I’m sure he won’t forget, though. With that thought, I got ready for bed and crawled between the covers. I fell asleep with a picture of Tiny in my mind.

Thank you to all who gave me name ideas, I probably wouldn't have thought of these names otherwise!  :veryhappy:

Chapter 7: Owner’s Perspective - Two Weeks Later

Oof. I heft my backpack up into the trunk of the car. Then I run back inside to whisper a goodbye to Tiny, telling her I’ll be home soon. I don’t tell her it’ll be two weeks. Hearing the sound of my voice, Tiny comes out as if to say goodbye. I stroke her back and put my hand down for her to climb on. I lift her to my chest, hugging her goodbye. We’ve come a long way in the last two weeks. I like to think that Tiny sensed me needing cheering up, because she climbed onto my shoulder and hugged my ear with her two front paws. “May!” my father didn’t like being kept waiting. I placed Tiny back into her cage, fed her one last time, closed the cage, and ran to the car. The camp was an hour's drive away from my house, and we spent the drive pretty much in silence. I had a feeling that he was still angry at me for asking him to take care of Tiny, after I said that I’d take care of her completely on my own when I got her. It was his fault I was going to this summer camp anyways, so wouldn’t he expect that he’d have to take care of her? Mom was out of the question, she was afraid of any kind of rodent, and I didn’t have any siblings. My friends were busy, so that left only Dad, even though he didn’t care about animals. “You’ll like summer camp.” Dad said finally, snapping me out of my thoughts. “I’m sure.” I grumbled. “No, really, me and your mother both went, and same as you, we didn’t really want to go. Once we got there, we were all out, though. Rock climbing, kayaking, making new friends, learning so many new things… Trust me, you’ll love it there.” He looked at me through the corner of his eye, judging my reaction. “Huh.” I still wasn’t convinced. Maybe it would be fun, but there wouldn’t be Tiny, and I’d worry about her. Plus, both mom and dad, they make friends as soon as they meet someone. Me, I’m shy, I never go up to strangers, I wait until they come up to me, I always seem very serious… really, I just don’t make friends easily. I was completely silent for the rest of the drive.

I feel abandoned. I was chucked into a cabin with three other girls who haven’t even noticed I’m here, my phone was taken away, “until the one electronic hour allowed this evening”,  and one of the girls has decided that they should use the fourth bunk as a place for luggage. She chucks her bag up onto the top bunk. I’m in the top bunk. “Ow...” I moan, and the girls look shocked. Apparently they really didn’t realize I was in here. The girl who threw the bag, who appears to be the leader of the bunch, reacts first. “What are you doing in our cabin?” She asks, stepping towards me. “Um, This is my cabin too, an assistant put me in here.” “What?” The leader whirls towards the smallest girl, who is practically cowering in the corner. “I told you to book us a cabin to ourselves!” The small girl whimpers, then runs out of the cabin. I follow her, shooting a venomous look at the leader as I walk out. I find the small girl on the porch, sobbing. I sit down on the steps beside her. We sit there for a while, until I blurt, “Hi, my name’s May, what’s yours?” Well, that’s a first. I was going to wait until she asked me, like I always did. Too late now. She sniffles and looks up. “Maria. The girl who was mean is Olivia, and the one who just stood by is Madeline, or Maddie, but don’t call her Maddie until she asks you to, or she’ll call Olivia on you. You won’t tell them I told you, right?” I’m startled. I wouldn’t make this girl any more problems like that. “Of course not.” I answer. Maria looks at me gratefully, and smiles. I smile back. I pull her up, and we walk back into the cabin together.

The actual story is starting!!!

Next chapter:

Chapter 8: Hamster’s Perspective

Waiting...Waaaaiting… Where in the world is my owner? It’s far past the time when she’d normally come, I can see the numbers on the screen nearby. 3:27 a.m. Normally she comes at about 10:00-11:00. A few minutes later, I heard the lid to my cage be unlatched, and a giant hand descended. It was ginormous, much bigger than my owner’s hand. It also came down quickly, not introducing itself before grabbing me around my middle and lifting me. I sensed this person’s energy. It wasn’t aggressive, exactly, just like the employee’s energy at the hay pellet tank, this person simply didn’t care about me. The person lifted me up, holding me so I couldn’t bite, couldn’t fight against him. I tried so hard to bite, but couldn’t. Instead, I decided to scratch as hard and as much as I could at the hand holding me. “Ow!” Success! Again! “Ow!” again and again, until I was shoved into the tiny cage that I had been brought from the hay pellet place in. Only this time, there was no bedding, there was no water, and there was no food. The person glanced at me, then tossed in a tiny handful of bedding from my cage. Then he picked up the cage, and carried it away, not even trying to swing it less. We got in one of those cages on wheels that move on their own, and the person began to move it, without even putting the strap across my cage! I reached through the bars and dug my claws into the fabric of the seat. One by one, they tore free. I careened to the floor, my cage landing on it’s side, and me landing painfully on the bars. I quickly stuffed all the bedding into my cheek pouches, so that it wouldn’t slip through the bars and be lost forever. I found a few seeds I’d forgotten about in the excitement in there too. I missed my huge cage, my wonderful owner, her caring ways, how she’d snuggle me in close, so I could hear her heartbeat… I jumped around for a while, chewing at the bars, climbing them, but eventually I realized there was no hope of escape, and nothing better to do, so I curled up against the bars of my cage, and fell into a restless sleep.

- + - + -

My cage was heaved out of the cage on wheels, jolting me awake. I was carried that in that careless, jolting manner, as if I was a shopping bag instead of a hamster. We passed through some doors into a warm but extremely bright space, where I was swung onto a table. The person left, which I was thankful for. I wasn’t sure how much more torture I could take, and even better, when he left, he turned off the lights! I explored for a while, which only consisted of me marking the cage, using the bathroom, emptying my pouches, eating one of the seeds that had been in my pouch, and contemplating my doom. After I had contemplated doom for a while, (it didn’t sound very nice), I fell into the same restless sleep, piling the small amount of bedding into a heap, burrowing into it, (I hit my nose almost immediately), and eventually settling with a thin layer of bedding beneath me, a thin layer on top, and the rest all around me. It was not a pleasant night, because if I wriggled even a tiny bit, I’d touch the bottom of the cage, which was cold metal, or break the layer of bedding on top of me.

Saddest chapter ever...  :
