Where am I? Was this another dream? I opened my eyes and blinked. The hazy moving figures slowly started to form into distinct shapes. Memories of what had last happened poured in like an avalanche, causing my mind to throb, much to my discomfort. I tried to get up from the ground that was covered with layers of excrement, but wobbled and slammed down. Urgh. Teensy hurried over anxiously, her once smooth face filled with creases and tear stains.

 

 

“Don’t try to get up Tiny, you’re not well yet. After Siewmai bit your leg, you blacked out from blood loss and me and some other young ones rushed to carry you away for fear that he might attack again. You almost didn’t make it a few days ago- “

 

“Wait what? A few days ago!? How long was I out for?” I cut off Teensy’s words.

 

 

“Uhm six days,” Teensy let out, “listen, there’s still more I need to tell you.”

 

 “Yes?”

 

“Oh wait never mind, let’s get your leg healing first.” My sister muttered. There was clearly something at the back of her mind, but my leg hurt so much that I let it slip.

It's a little short since I have some homework to complete, but I promise there'll be more soon!

I hobbled behind my sister to the "nursing corner" where she tried to treat injured hamsters with the meagre sources available. Pieces of bedding was binded together for bandage, not very sterile but the best that could be provided. Sunflower seed shells, our main diet were used as splints. Teensy didn't demand any food in return for her service, though she begrudgingly helped some of Siewmai's gang when they needed it. Pain stabbed my leg with every stagger and I had no choice but to slump down into a heap.

"Oh gosh, sorry to make you walk on your bad leg! Nevermind, let's settle down here instead," Teensy apologised anxiously.

"I'm fine, just need a little time. After all, what can Siewmai do that is that bad right?" I tried to loosen her up by making a funny joke. Teensy let out a high nervous laughter that was clearly forced, and she sat down in front of me.

Tenderly taking my injured limb in her delicate hands, she unrolled the hastily wrapped bandage that didn't look exactly in the best condition. Rubbing a small dab of ointment (which I dare not ask what made of) onto the wound, she bandaged it back up again.

"There you go. It'll be fine in some weeks, I expect," She smiled lovingly.

I supported myself against the clouded surface of the storage box we lived in and struggled to my feet.

"Hey umm, what was that you were going to tell me just now?" I piqued.

"The hand... It um... Took Mama away.."

I'm sorry to stop in the middle so abruptly but I've got to go sleep now. :/ I promise I'll edit this tomorrow though!

"It wanted to take you while you were unconscious, but Mama protected you and The Hand took her away instead," Teensy stammered with tears in her eyes, dangerously ready to spill out any moment.

 

Oh. My. God. 

"No, that can't be possible," I croaked, disbelief clouding my words.

"Tell me this is a joke! Please!" I begged Teensy, my face a picture of shock and horror.

 

"I...I'm.....Sorry.....I wish I could just say it was all a joke, but it's real." Teensy choked.

 

I wished I could turn back time. Not made that stupid mistake. It was all because of me. I curled into a ball of greasy fur, sobbing and moaning. Mama, my source of joy and comfort was gone. I'd never see her again. Teensy stood there, awkwardly putting her hand on my back, unsure of what to say. 

"It's all my fault," I whispered to myself. Turning away from my sister, I stumbled away into my nesting area. My once overwhelming sadness turned into hate. Overpowering hate. I hated myself. With shaking clenched fists, I made a decision. 

"It'll be better without me existing." Wiping my tear streaked face with lines across it, I determinedly dashed to the sharp saw-edged corner of the container made years ago by hamsters thinking they could escape. This was it. 

 

"No Tiny!!!!!!!!!" The last words I heard echoed in my head over and over again. Then silence.
