Hi!
I am looking for your opinions as to the pros and cons of glass and plexiglass, as well as which one you prefer to use for hamster enclosures and why? Have you found one to be particularly good for a certain purpose (eg. large enclosures, multiple sides etc)?

Interested to your opinions and experiences :)

I prefer plexiglass. It's expensive, but it's lighter, drillable, shatterproof.

Glass is cheaper, but it shatters easily, it very heavy, not drillable.

I've seen pictures of people with glass whose enclosures shattered in middle of the night

Plexi glass:

Pros:

Light

Lasts longer

Un-shatter-able

Cons:

More expensive than glass

Scratches easy

Stains easy

Bedding can stick to it

Glass:

Pros:

Cheap

Doesn't scratch so easy

Doesn't bend like plexiglass can (although you should have thick enough plexiglass so that it doesn't bend)

Bedding doesn't stick

Cons:

Can shatter

Water stains are annoying and can be difficult to get off

I am a little late here, but I personally would def recommend glass. As long as you get a good, thick piece and secure it well there shouldn't be any issues with breaking under normal conditions. When I was building an enclosure for my hamster we went to check out the plexiglass but it was so flimsy! I ended up getting glass and it works perfectly for me.
