I don't think you have to fret, lucid dreaming isn't scary. It actually feels good and not scary, like "wow, I can do this now". Even if you accidentally did it, it wouldn't be bad.

and as Lillias said, there's no correlation between sleep paralysis and lucid dreaming. =) I've had both, they are nothing alike.

Anyone else try to read or write in your dreams? I always get frustrated trying to read in my dreams lol like MAKE SENSE!!! even though it's almost always gibberish.

I've never tried to read in my dreams? I don't think I've had a dream where I was like, "this is a dream!"

My brother and sister like to lucid dream, if you try an do it sometimes it causes sleep paralysis...

I've not heard of that before (of course, I learned about lucid dreaming through books about 20 years ago lol) and spent way too many hours practicing and finally learning it. Maybe I was a slow student lol

I wonder how your siblings are attempting it that causes that? hmmm...

Hmm...

My siblings try an start a dream where they are in a certain reality, they spend hours scripting and while they are trying to start it, it occasionally leads to them experiencing sleep paralysis. Only my brother has had it but my sister is better at it then him. They don't try an lucid dream much anymore but sometimes you can catch it if you focus on your breathing and try and stay awake while you fall into a dream, there is a perfect moment where you can catch it and start a lucid dream. When my brother got sleep paralysis he said that he wasn't scared (since of course we used to live in a house where he would see things a lot). He just kissed the black figure on the nose and managed to stop it (he's weird i dunno).

I've read about people doing it that way but it never worked for me. I could only ever get them to happen when I did practiced breathing and slowly letting myself slip into a half awake half dream and then taking control of the dream that way. (many times I just fell asleep first lol) I've never had sleep paralysis while lucid dreaming though. Only when I have nightmares. Maybe different methods have different risks or maybe it's about the dreamer and not the method.

I haven't tried to do it in a while because while it was fun and interesting, I never got some huge breakthrough of understanding or things other people had. But maybe that's why those people were writing books lol

Oh, those are different methods. I've never invested much energy into trying to lucid dream. I transition into lucid dreams from normal dreams.

I'm not sure I could pull off half-awake at the beginning of my sleep cycle. I'd probably just fall asleep.

I was trying to lucid dream last night, but I ended up dreaming about Christmas parties that were about to get nuclear bombed. It was not that scary, because I like learning about that stuff.

What I have is phobias that lead to recurring nightmares. Lucid dreaming is the exit door from the nightmare, but sometimes I can't find it.
