I thought I might ask here since we are doing some things to try an stop these now..Why did I, in my nightmare, wake up and the nightmare continued, like a night terror. I was shaking and found it hard to breath but I didn't see anything? I've had 2 of these before but now, since I've had my 3rd, I wanted to ask about it... What is happening to me? My first "instance" was back at my old house, which, was actually kinda haunted (If anyone wants that story I feel fine to tell it since we've moved)... I had been watching some vids about Fnaf, Help Wanted, and I woke up terrified. I was shaking, and sweating and for some reason it felt like I was still in the dream... I begged my parents to let me sleep in their room but they said no. I rolled over and tried to sleep... The second was at my new house and I was already sleeping with my parents. I has watched some vids on Ultimate Custom night and asked to sleep in their room, they said yes. Again, when I woke up I felt like I was in the dream... I started to talk to my dad, whcih helped but my mom was mad because it was 2am. So I tried to go back to sleep. They third was still here, at my new house, which isn't haunted btw. I had watched some vids about some haunted spaces and talking about my old house that was haunted with my sis. Last night, I had trouble going to sleep, but I managed. I woke up 2 hours later and my dream continued. But this time worse, I could actually see my dream, instead of just thinking I was still in it. I was shaking when I woke up my mom and she let me sleep in her room. I rolled over to go to sleep and woke 3 hours later drenched in sweat. I rolled over and fell asleep until my mom woke me when my dad left for work and I got to sleep next to her in bed. I'm fine now as the sun as come up, and we are asking our priest tonight about what to do. I thought I might ask about it here becasue I want to know what is happening, on top of stopping it. If you've read this whole thing, thanks... And if anyone wants the story of my old house...I can tell you.

This is pretty common to wake up from a dream and still feel the emotions from the dream. I've had that happen to me sometimes. I woke up one time thinking that someone was over me with a knife, I jumped out of bed and started swinging lol. My hubby won't forget that night lol. What works for me is, I turn on the lights and get up (as long as you don't bother anyone else), read a calm, happy, or peaceful book and then eventually I can fall back asleep. Usually, I grab a children's book that I love.

Honestly, I would stop watching or listening to scary stories before bed. Your mind tends to sort things out in you head while sleeping and if it was the last thing on your mind, then it's probably the first thing unpacked.

I hate it when I dream and I feel like I'm frozen in the dream and can't move lol. I tend to get dreams like that when I watch shows that are about murderers or something. Even if they are very technical (like Cold Cases or something). I've learned to watch them during the day and earlier so it's not the last thing I'm thinking of. I actually had to stop watching some shows because every night afterwards, I would have bad dreams. Even if I didn't feel upset when I went to bed.

It also sounds like you could be doing a bit of lucid dreaming, when you fell back asleep.

That sounds scary. I had a few dreams like that. It often means that you are to hot. I remember 2 times. Once, I was a little sniffly, and it was the night we were going Christmas shopping for my mom. After I came home, I felt worse than before. I put on the blankets I usually use, but I still wanted more. My dad said I had a fever, but I still felt cold, because it was winter, and I was sick.

And so I had like 5 blankets on, and I slept fine, but then I had a more vivid dream than normal, and the dream was me getting smaller and smaller, and so I called my mom to the bed. she said it was because I was getting better, and I did not need all those blankets.

The second time was fall maybe? All I know is it was not snowy, and it was not summer. I was in a room by myself. And I think the dream was, I was at a party, and I went to the bathroom and I saw Taylor Swift?! But the next part, I think it is another one of those dreams of me getting smaller, but this time, it was a recuring dream I have. It always scares me every time. But when I finally woke up, I still saw whatever was scaring me, and I noticed that I was quite wet from sweat.

You are probably too hot, so maybe try sleeping with just your bedsheet, or a thin blanket, and you can add more on if you are cold.

Also, I would like to hear the story of your old house.

I am guessing from my bad dreams that I am probably a claustrophobic person.

The thing is, I hadn't watched it before bed. I normally get on at 3ish

I’ve had nightmares similar to the idea and that. They always end in extreme violence (usually my own death in various ways) after that seems like hours of suspense and anxiety.
I actually lucid dream a lot.
And experience sleep paralysis on a regular basis.

Tbh I’d maybe just try getting up and walking around for a few minutes before going back to sleep- it seems to help me to end the dream.

What is lucid dreaming?

Lucid dreams are essentially dreams in which you can know with certainty that you are dreaming, and possess free will to do whatever you want in said dream. I've heard it described as an enhanced VR. You can test it by sticking your fingers through your hand (they should go through in a lucid dream) or plugging your nose, closing your mouth, and breathing. If you can do it, you're lucid dreaming. Or so I've heard. Don't quote me on that O_O

One tip is don't look in mirrors, because in a lucid dream, your reflection can be horribly distorted and you can wake yourself up by scaring yourself.

I agree with everyone else, and like Kikya said, definitely don't watch scary stuff before bed. I get nightmares very easily and I can be super sensitive around any thoughts that scare or even upset me the slightest.

Honestly, I'd much rather sleep with one of my siblings like I used to, it was so much easier to sleep then haha.

Also, I'd love to hear the story as well! :)

I would lay off the scary videos for awhile, even if you aren't watching before bed. It may help to establish a healthy bedtime routine. Figure out what relaxes you (reading a light-hearted book, using aromatherapy, taking a hot shower, etc.)

Is there anything in real life that is stressing or worrying you? Sometimes our subconscious acts out when there's something weighing on us.

Lucid dreaming can be fun because you may be able to will yourself into a better dream. Sleep paralysis is scary though. It exists for a reason (so you aren't thrashing about in your sleep) but terrifying to awake and still be unable to move.

I've never tried to lucid dream... I certainly didn't do it on purpose!  I'm kinda afraid of having sleep paralysis, it sounds so scary!

Ok, why does it sound like I was lucid dreaming? Everyone is saying that and I don't know why?!

Lots... Lots and lots of stress and worry's... But that's all the time? I've only had 3 of these types of dreams?

yeah, i don't EVER want to get sleep paralysis...

If you don't mind me asking, have you ever experienced sleep paralysis? I never have, but I'm absolutely terrified of it. It's on my top 10 list of things I'm afraid of, which is saying a lot, because I'm afraid of quite a few things haha.

To my knowledge, there are a few unfortunate souls out there who experience it several times a month, actually, and they've learned over time how to deal with it. Don't open your eyes, how to wake yourself up and get out of the paralysis, etc. I've heard too many horror stories of opening your eyes and seeing things that haunt you forever. The subconscious is a terrifying place sometimes.

I'm extremely sensitive to scary movies/videos/stories, and sometimes I struggle to sleep for weeks. One night of next to no sleep is the best I've ever had from a scary movie that I hadn't seen previously. Examples include the Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, The Sixth Sense (when I was younger. I've seen this one too many times now to actually be scared of it, plus it's generally not that scary imo), The Ring, and so on.

I just don't do it very often. I like the thrill and sometimes I get in a mood, but usually, I will regret it in some way. I can't sleep very well, and it's as simple as that.
