Animal Testing
found this resource by PETA: http://www.stopanimaltests.com/
Please read for more information on the cruel nature of animal testing.

At the below link, you can download 2 pdf files which list the products that test and don't test on animals.

http://www.caringconsumer.com/searchcompany.html

Animal Ingrediants

These are also some hidden animal ingrediants in cosmetics and many consumer products. I quote a para from the following link
http://www.caringconsumer.com/ingredientslist.html

Remember, animal ingredients are used not because they are better than vegetable-derived or synthetic ingredients, but rather because they are generally cheaper. Today’s slaughterhouses must dispose of the byproducts of the slaughter of billions of animals every year and have found an easy and profitable solution in selling them to food and cosmetics manufacturers.

Awareness

I am not saying that we shd totally boycott all products that test on animals or use animal ingrediants. But I think it will beneficial if we can be more informed about how a product is made and what ingrediants go into it.

all products need to be tested b4 it appears on the market to ensure that it will be safe for use. but most companies conveniently do the testing on animals and not paid human subjects becoz 1) they need not pay the animals 2) they can test the animals in more extreme conditions & animals can't protest 3) lab mice, rats and hamsters breed easily

Evil! That's what it is! Legally blonde 2 shows some ideas on how to make the whole thing illegal. Um here's the Synopsis for LB2http://www.mgm.com/legallyblonde2/synopsis.htmlI hope the link works. It was an ok movie, but Elle woods does fight to make animal testing illegal after she sees makeup being apllied to a dog. Perhaps we could make something similar to the "Bruiser's Bill" as shown in the movie? :scratchchin: ???

Great idea Charmer!!!
We could do a voting booth for a name.
Maybe we could do
1. Hamster Hideout's Bill
2. SAT (Stop Animal Testing)
3. PDTSA ( Please Don't Test Stuff on Animals )

Choose one!!!

My god thats horrible! I was also reading a pet care magazine and it seems that some people with the 'NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS' thing on the back of tgings may NOT actually be true! Some companies say that just because some animals took major allergic reactions to it and died. Actually, MANY of them die every year because of testing. They showed some horrific pictures. Some animals got burned and beaten and some had hives all over them. It was disgusting...

HB :: u must be a mind-reader cause i was curious abt how much this list had changed in the past few years...

ppl shd know that Chanel, even though it doesn't test on animals, owns a company called "Holland and Holland" which makes high-end rifles, etc., glamorizing the barbaric world of hunting, especially hunting espoused by groups like the Safari Club which conduct big-money, enclosed-ranch hunting where animals are bought from zoos, or captured in the wild or bred specifically to raise on these ranches so rich ppl can dress up and kill them. it's absolutely disgusting and i think PETA should have a footnote to the Chanel listing because you'd still be supporting their grusome bottom line.

there is absolutely NO REASON for any cosmetic company to use animals for testing... if other companies have found alternatives (such as Clarins and Estee Lauder, which i have used for over 10 years) then no other company needs to either. they just continue because that's how they've always done things, and they've got these ongoing relationships with companies that provide the lab animals, so why shd they change?

there's a company in the US called "Bath and Body" and all their products are not tested on animals. they're also priced lower than the department-store brands. this includes bath and shower gels, soaps, aromatherapy, skincare, etc.

this is a very emotional topic for me. at 29 i decided to become a vegetarian, stopped wearing leather and fur, and continue to try and educate myself. animals are so defenseless against humans and whatever humans decide they want to do with them.

look at the poor creatures now being destroyed by the millions because of viruses and "mad cow" disease which humans have caused by feeding ground-up cattle, TO CATTLE, who are herbivores!!! cattle and birds who could easily be treated by a vet, but instead are just killed because it's economically easier.

it's usually such a relief to come to a place like HH where ppl love their animals. HB this was a great post by you. :trophy:

yes, thank you, Hamster Boss, for this post. i did check out the website and found that the facial products i had been using (neutrogena) are a cruelty-free subsidiary of a parent company (J & J) that engages in animal testing. as such, i have switched skin care products.

last week, i joined peta and also donated a membership for my mom. i have purchased and received the peta 2004 consumer shopping guide and will make sure my future purchases are informed and compassionate decisions.

would also like to be involved in contacting companies that do not test on animals and offer words of support and thanks, while encourgaging companies that do test to change their policies.

thanks again, HB! i was never in support of animal testing but it's easy to become so involved in our own lives that we neglect to remember the lives of our animal friends.

Tks missPixy & sharma for your kind words - I'm happy to find like-minded folks here! :applause:

sadly I think all the Japanese skincare brands i used are tested on animals.

I've switched my makeup to Clinique (which is under estee lauder) ... skincare to dermalogica and my toiletries to St. Ives, Original Source and The Body Shop. also using The Funky Farm handwash... so far so good! :applause:

I'm interested in Tigi hair products ... recommended by missPixy at the beauty board. if anyone know where i can find them in singapore/purchase online, let me know!

Why do ppl test on animals when they might have a different skin type??
>>millions of tons of dead animals every year<<
All of that in the name of beauty?? That's dumb. Do these ppl think beauty is more than millions of lives destroyed every year?? You don't throw a whole life away just because it's banged up a little.(can you guess where that's from??). We should send a copy of the list of Animal Ingredients and their Alternatives to the offending companies.

I would just like to add another company who do not test on any animals as well. It is probably not known outside of the UK, and it is more expensive than other brands...however all their products are homemade, contain little packaging, and wonderful for anyone with sensitive skin.

Lush Handmade Cosmetics

I recommend them to everyone because they have some of the nicest smelling products and they don't use alot of chemicals like other products. Actually the only chemicals they use are to preserve the product (even though most products have short shelf life).

:star:

Also, I wasn't aware that Cover Girl tests on animals. I shall stop buying their products. I recognize some of the other makeup brands but they are much expensive! I will have to change the brand of makeup I use.
