First off I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Misspixy, Tinypixiexoxo, Skywilling, and Azayles who helped me compile this list :D

Hopefully most of you will find this helpful

List of Items to keep in your hamster first aid kit

-List of Exotic Vets in your area - Just to have so you dont have to look when your hamster is sick
- Q-tips - to apply topical medications as well as clean eyes and ears ( if their are signs of infection)
- Rubber gloves- to lower the risk of contamination of an open wound
- Clean small towel- To help with squirming animals
- Eye cleansing drops- in case of eye irritation or gunk
- 1 ml syringe - for oral medications
- Fine Tweezers- for removal of foreign objects
- Hot water bottle- Sick hams can lose heat fast
- Baby Nail Clippers - to clip nails if they have become too long and are causing lacerations * must be baby as they are smaller and easier to control*
- Antihistamine Lotion- just in case your hamster is stung by a bee the stinger should be removed and the lotion applied
- Surgical Gauze - for stopping the flow of blood from wounds as well as cleaning bigger wounds ( q tips can be used for smaller wounds )
- Olive Oil - used for constipated hamsters
- Pedialyte - for dehydration
- Purified water - to water down pedialyte
- Manuka honey - for cuts and scabs
- Pure organic aloe or an aloe plant- minor cuts , burns or abrasions
- Heating Pad- Without an automatic shut off ... Same reasons as the hot water bottle
- Eyelash comb and eyebrow brush- for cleaning messy fur
- Chlorhexidine- used to disinfect wounds - thanks Lacrima for the addition
- Bayer Keto-Diastix- For diabetes prone species to test urine levels in case of symptoms
*only absolutely necessary for diabetes prone species owners *
- Fresh Thyme- The benefits of fresh thyme/ thyme tea are too numerous to list * should be kept refrigerated or frozen? though it may be best to just grow it instead of constantly buying it *

*NOTE: Some of these items do expire and will need refreshed periodically* Thanks so much Toshie for the addition

All of these supplies should fit well in a makeup tote or tacklebox

Please Any one who has any thing to add I will gladly add it to the list and of course add you to the thanks :D

Extremely useful! This should be pinned! :scratchchin:
EDIT : Maybe freshen up some items?
Like maybe the olive oil can expire, or the manuka honey will go bad...
Just saying. xD

Nice list, Elli :D
Olive oil is also good for breaking down sticky stuff that might get on Hamster, for example glue from those awful glue traps for mice.

Great list Elli. :D There's a few things on there that I haven't even thought of. Do you think that a clean normal bottle filled with hot water and covered with a clean sock would work as a substitute hot water bottle if needed?

Just a thought tho... are cotton wool balls the best things to use on open wounds? We've stopped using them in the hospital I work at as they can leave fibres behind in the wound and so reduce healing time and increase infection risk. I'd rather use gauze swabs (also called wipes, squares or dressings). You can get small ones like thesefrom pharmacies and chemists. They also have the added bonus of being sterile (until opened).
