Most recent visit was for a Broken leg

Small animal exam fee/general fee - $59

Follow up visit - $45

Baytril Injection - $39

Baytril Oral Suspension (10mg/mL) 1/2 oz. - $44

Additional injections -$25

Metacam 15mL - $57
General location - Uptown Manhattan

The vet they had that saw my hamster dealt with

other animals as well but he did know how to treat hamsters.

They've gotten a bit pricey this year.

Last year it was a lot more cheaper.

I dont have the vet bill near me to write down the info but it wasn't $200+

Honestly the next time I have to bring one of my boys

I'm asking for a generic brand of the medicine, haha.

Have more information for you, sadly.

britanniaanimalhospital.com

-Procedures and their prices

Consult is now $89 + tax

Asked about x-rays - they start at $180

Asked about necropsy - they start at $120

Parasite Check - $61 (same as last time, but this is the for sure number, last time I was trying to remember from my bill)

-Medications and their prices (example: ibuprofen 25mg, 30 pills)

Trimebutine Maleate - 5mg/mL give 0.05mL every 12 hrs

Trimethoprim Sulfa 48mg/ml oral suspension give 0.1mL every 12 hrs

-General location (down to city if possible, for comparison)

Mississauga

-Type of vet - exotic? Specialist? General cat/dog vet?

They do do others, but they are great with exotics, from hamsters to birds.

-Other costs (lab fees, exam fees, etc)

All mentioned above.

This time I asked much more questions too, as it was less "this is the cause" and more "we think it's this". They will refer us to Guelph for an ultrasound - they will also send away anything abnormal (which will cost more). She will also order me in Bene-bac (tubes) for hamsters, if she can find it. The vet techs are all fabulous, and she was much more personable this go-round.

They seemed shocked at what happened below, and sad.

http://www.vetemergency.ca/index.html

-Procedures and their prices

Consult was $165

X-Rays were $200 - we chose not to do them

-Medications and their prices (example: ibuprofen 25mg, 30 pills)

None given.

-General location (down to city if possible, for comparison)

Mississauga/Oakville Border

-Type of vet - exotic? Specialist? General cat/dog vet?

24 hour emergency, but they specialize way more in dogs and cats, and know very little about exotics

-Other costs (lab fees, exam fees, etc)

All mentioned above.

Was not very impressed with this clinic - I bet they'd be super fab with a dog or cat, but for a hammy... unless it's a big big big emergency that needs to be seen ASAP (ours was, but they still couldn't help us) I wouldn't go. The vet was very helpful and friendly, and was interested in helping our little Biscotti. She gave us some interesting ideas and theories, and did give us a good course of action when we went home, though ultimately, couldn't really do anything for us. So we called this the "$165 peace of mind fee".

In Lancashire. England, a few years ago we took my old hamster to the vet as she was getting old, it was £13 to get her looked at, he checked her and just basically said she was getting old so look after her. Prices may be a little higher since (would have thought about £15 now)

I have actually not taken my hamster to the vet yet, but I've emailed them (a place close to my house that has pretty good reviews) to see the price of a general check-up and a nail trim.

Procedures:
General Check-Up
- full head to tail exam
- checking of heat rates
- checking of mouth, ears, eyes, temperature, etc.
- talk about nutrition/diets
Price = $64.50 CAD (taxes not included)

Nail Trimming Price = $14.50 CAD (taxes not included)

Medication - none needed so far

General Location
-

Type of Vet
It's actually an animal hospital with different vets that specializes in different animals. They have a vet that specializes in exotics and small mammals such as hamsters and guinea pigs.

Other Costs
I'm not sure about the prices, but they can do x-rays, flea control, dermatology, endoscopy, dentistry, cardiology, tonometry, ultrasonography, neutering, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedic surgery, endocrinology and cryosurgery.

EDIT: I've decided not to tell the name of the animal hospital because it is very close to my house.

All Creatures in Auburn, AL

I have only seen them once to get Lupin's nails clipped and they did wonderfully, and seemed to have a lot of knowledge of hams. The nail clipping was $12! Which I would not have done alone (def a 2 person job!) They are a general vet but they do have a "small animals" sector.

I have also heard that the Vet hospital that houses Dr Pete Marine in town does small animals like hamsters if that is a question of someone and we have a teaching vet hospital that takes hamsters by reference (all their animals are by reference only).

Hello everyone
We are compiling some info about vet prices and need your help. If you have ever taken your hamster to the vet, would you mind sharing how much it cost and what you paid for?
You can post here or PM me if you'd prefer to keep it more private.
What we're looking for:
-Procedures and their prices
-Medications and their prices (example: ibuprofen 25mg, 30 pills)
-General location (down to city if possible, for comparison)
-Type of vet - exotic? Specialist? General cat/dog vet?
-Other costs (lab fees, exam fees, etc)
Thanks a ton!

I went to 3 different vets for my Norma. The 1st vet was an exotic vet. This was when i was worried she had pyometra, she ended up having nothing wrong with her. I believe she charged $80 for the exam. The second vet was also an exotics specialist. This was when Norma was very sick. She was diagnosed with a possible UTI and arthritis. The vet was very nice and let me use a coupon that made the exam drop down to only $20. She was also prescribed Baytril that was about $20 and Metacam that was about $20. The third vet I went to was just my local vet. So, general. This was when Norma began having bloody discharge. He believed it could've been a UTI. He charged about $60 for the exam and $20 for antibiotics.

-Procedures and their prices

Emailed the vet last night to ask about getting a prescription without a consult for Caramel. Asked for enrofloxacin and possibly meloxicam, went with the former. Ideally, they should come in, however Caramel is elderly and fairly poorly, and the risks for taking him into the clinic (and also that he is paired, so Mocha would have had to go too) were not worth it. She was happy to help without a consult, and be accommodating, however we will have to pay for an email consult (which I am 100% fine, and so appreciative of her help and the leniency!). Though I am not 100% sure if the $25 accommodation fee is strictly for Caramel (and Mocha), or to all my hamsters, as she mentions that she wants to "provide quality care to you (Caramel) and your herd." Will find out, but we're A-okay to take our other hamsters in for the consult.

-Medications and their prices (example: ibuprofen 25mg, 30 pills)

I was quoted $25 (each) for enrofloxacin and meloxicam.

I paid $25 + tax for the meloxicam, 5mL or 10mg/mL diluted with NaCl - specifically asked for something not sugary for him

She informed me that the medication is "off label" as she did have to dilute it. This is fine with me, as both are medications I have used prior.

I was also quoted $12 for Germistat (chlorhexidine cleanser) which we chose not to go for, as I was unsure of the safety. A cursory google brought an article that showed high concentrations of chlorhexidine caused lesions in cheek pouches. As such, we chose to stick with a saline solution.

-General location (down to metro area if possible, for comparison)

Mississuaga
-Type of vet - exotic? Specialist? General cat/dog vet?

More general, but this specific vet has specialties in small animals. Not as streamlined as the other vet I go to, but she's very accommodating, and they're just down the street.

-Other costs (lab fees, exam fees, etc)

$25 email consult

$84.90 physical examination

My experience here has been wonderful. I have brought one of my hams here who suffered from wet tail </3 RIP. They were so kind and understanding, and did everything possible to help my little ham. They were very accommodating, and flexible when making appointments. I have another dwarf winter white who suffered from mastitis, after bringing her to this vet they drained her abscesses and put her on oral Baytril and she made a full recovery. They are great about checking in after treatment is given with a phone call or email! I would recommend them to anyone in the area. :)

Usually, if you prescribe for medication, it will cost about £45, including the check up. If you just go for a check up, then it will come to approximately £10 - £20.
I hope this helped.

- Texas

(I know, big state, not helpful. I'm nervous about giving my location, though.)

- General animal hospital w/exotic vet on-staff

This place had two different types of appointments: wellness check and specific issues. I went in for possible fungus/skin infection, so they didn't do a full wellness exam.

  • Exotic Exam - $49
    -- weight
    -- teeth/skin/fur check
    -- fungus/mites/ringworm testing
-- advice (keeping nails short, skin clear, teeth short, and so on)

  • OSHA Compliance Bio-hazard Fee (?) - $3

  • Pedicure w/service (nail trimming) - $9.45

No medicine required this time around.

In all, $61.45. I took $200 just in case, but I guess I didn't need it!

Also, I took my old hamster Hamtaro to this same vet years ago. I still don't know what was wrong with her (she had something sticking out of her urinary tract...) but they fixed it within literally five minutes; they didn't even bother sending me to an exam room, the vet just took Hamtaro to the back and fixed her right up on the spot. The vet told me that since it was such an easy fix, he wouldn't charge me a dime. A wonderful man!

Random: The staff wanted to keep Tako for themselves.  :rotfl: When the vet went to go cut her nails, all the assistants started freaking out and begging to do/help with the cutting themselves, just so they could hold her. The vet had to fight them off! When he was done, all you could hear was, "Byyyyyye Taaaaakoooo~! Come back sooooon~!" The staff is great.
